One of my youth club members told me his mum had broken up with his stepfather and violence was involved. Should I follow this up?

Feelings of loneliness, isolation and invisibility must be overwhelming for children who find themselves in violent domestic situations.

In telling you this information, he not only wanted you to know, but was hoping for some kind of support. If you feel that pointing him in the direction of Childline would help, they are a prime source of support, although organisations such as Refuge and Women’s Aid work with children as well as adults in domestic violence.

They would be happy to talk to you or the young man directly in complete confidence.

You might want to mention that the police would respond to emergency calls in the event that it happens again.
