Children and youth workforce is prominent in Honours list

The head of Cafcass and Kent's director of children's services are among the children and youth professionals featured in the New Year Honours list.

Anthony Douglas, head of family court support organisation Cafcass and chair of the British Association for Adoption & Fostering, received a CBE for his services to family justice and adoption.

Douglas said: "I have worked with so many fantastic people over the years and this award is recognition of the work they have done in delivering quality services for children."

Kent's Graham Badman was also handed a CBE for his services to local government.

Dozens of other figures from the children and youth sector also received honours. Alasdair MacDonald, the headteacher of Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets, was knighted and Wales' chief inspector of education Susan Lewis received a CBE.

Jeanette Pugh, head of safeguarding at the Department for Children, Schools and Families, was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB).

Among those who received OBEs were: Jonathan Douglas-Hughes, chair of the Essex Association of Boys' Clubs; Esther O'Callaghan, chair of the Young People's Fund at the Big Lottery Fund; Peter Robbins, chief executive of the Internet Watch Foundation; Pauline Adams, chair of Crossroads Wales; and John Wilson, director of education at East Renfrewshire Council.

David Butler, chief executive of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations, and Michele Elliott, director of Kidscape, also landed OBEs.

Meanwhile, MBEs went to Dominic Henry, senior education officer at the Northern Ireland Office, and Kathleen Ross, a dietician at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.

Others given MBEs included Ann Chambers, Sure Start operations manager at Howgill Family Centre and Richard Davies, founder of Newcastle faith-based youth group Own It.
