Councillors lack frontline insight

There is a "huge lack of awareness" of issues in the children's sector among local authority lead members, the shadow children's minister has claimed.
Conservative MP Tim Loughton told CYP Now that lead members for children's services spend a lot of time on training courses but lack an understanding of issues affecting frontline practitioners. "Lead members are faced with paperwork and committees and haven't had time to witness the outcomes on the ground," he said.
The Conservative MP is calling for more meetings with frontline staff.
