Tuesday, February 22, 2011
A mother who claims her daughter was wrongly placed in care has taken her case to the European Court of Human Rights.
The mother was brought up in care and was still under the supervision of Oldham Council when she had her baby at the age of 20 in November 2008. The council believed she was not capable of looking after her child.
Oldham Council refused to comment specifically on the case, but a spokesman said: "Oldham Council takes its responsibilities for the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people extremely seriously and is committed to providing the best support to all people who it has a legal responsibility to care for."
Oldham's children's services has been rated excellent by Ofsted.
