Surge in calls over exam stresses

Friday, May 28, 2010

Mental health charity YoungMinds has received a surge in calls about exam stress during the past year.

Calls from concerned parents rose by nearly a third, with 1,058 calling the helpline between April 2009 and March 2010.

Claire Usiskin, policy manager for YoungMinds' parent helpline, said: "This rise in calls is not surprising, with young people taking so many exams, and the added pressures of coursework."

The charity has issued a series of tips to help parents and young people cope.
