Youth officer body faces overhaul

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

The Association of Principal Youth & Community Officers (Apyco) is to open its doors to different services as part of changes designed to reflect recent reforms in youth services.

Due to the rise of integrated youth support services, Apyco has proposed changing the organisation's name to the Association of Integrated Youth Support Services. It is also planning to alter its membership structure to tie in with the rise of integrated youth support teams.

The move means the organisation could start accepting members from outside traditional youth services such as Connexions and youth offending team staff.

The changes will be discussed and voted on at Apyco's annual general meeting on 13 October. In a statement, the organisation said: "The rise of integrated youth support services and the developments brought in by Every Child Matters, Youth Matters and Aiming High for Young People mean that Apyco is looking to change to continue to provide the best possible support to leaders of youth services across the country."
